The collaboration between the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) was established in 1997 after AKRSP expressed their need to increase their capacity in conducting research and UMB saw an opportunity for its staff and students to gain experience and improve skills in carrying out applied research.
The collaboration is organised around the project: “High Altitude Integrated Natural Resource Management” in the Northern Areas of Pakistan. The interdisciplinary nature of the project requested that
researchers with different academic backgrounds collaborate and discuss their findings to understand the challenges in the project area in a holistic way.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The project focuses on these topics:
• Forestry
• Agriculture
• Animal husbandry
• Gender Issues
• Institutions
• Information and documentation
This website presents activities, findings and further questions and challenges we met during the collaboration. Many people have been involved in this project and the results are therefore presented in different ways and formats; from
scientific articles to
field reports, and from
workshop presentations to
Master's and Phd theses.
