On this page you will find a number of training modules related to animal welfare. The training modules are intented to be used by teachers and students as part of courses related to animal welfare, or by other people interested in animal welfare topics.

Name Description
Animal Ethics DilemmaAn internet-based learning resource, which can be used by teachers and students as part of an animal ethics course. The programme presents dilemmas of animal use from different ethical perspectives using role-play, and aims to develop one's own ethical view and provide a better understanding of the ethical views of others.
Driving pigs to stunningThis learning resource provides information on the process of driving pigs to stunning and enables you to critically evaluate how driving systems can influence pig welfare and pork quality. The resource does not consider the preceding or subsequent procedures, such as transport or stunning methods.
Laboratory animal health and welfareThis tutorial provides an introduction to assessing the health and welfare of laboratory animals. It is designed to be used by inexperienced research workers and staff involved in animal care.
Pain exercise
How do we know what animals are feeling? Because animals cannot speak, we have to pay attention to what their body language and behaviour tells us. This is difficult, and requires both knowledge and experience. By completing this pain exercise you will increase your confidence and ability to do just that.
Practical Animal Handling This tutorial features videos of expert veterinary staff demonstrating the correct procedures for handling small mammals for clinical examination and medication. Its aim is to show that the primary consideration should be for the welfare of the animal.
Recognising Post-Operative Pain in AnimalsThis tutorial provides an introduction to recognising post-operative pain in animals. It is designed to be used by relatively inexperienced research workers and staff involved in animal care.
The vocalizations of pigsThe computer analysis of vocal behaviour is an important tool in our research on the welfare of farm animals, such as pigs. This game will show the variety of vocalizations made in different situations, as well as some of the computer techniques used to analyse these calls.
