Norway's Crown Prince opens university

Joanna Boddens-Hosang

The Norwegian University of Life Sciences was officially opened by H.R.H. Prince Haakon of Norway on Monday 23 May.

In addition to the prince, the Minister of Education and Research, Kristin Clemet, the Minister of Fisheries, Svein Ludvigsen, and the head of the parliament's education committee, Rolf Reikvam, participated in the festive ceremony. Other invited guests included UMB's partners from the academic, ministerial and research milieu. The formal part of the ceremony included awarding five people the UMB Honorary Doctorate.

The prince subsequently cut a ribbon as a symbolic gesture to open the new University Grove, which includes 7 maple trees. In the evening, staff and students alike enjoyed a Norwegian shrimp meal and live music.
