Welcome support for environmental and scientific subjects - little for maintenance

UMB was pleased to receive five new Research Fellow positions in mathematics, natural science and engineering (MNT). However, there were no allocations for maintenance.

With the general increase of 50 million kroner for research in bioenergy from forest raw materials and a strengthening in climate research of 75 million kroner, UMB is very satisfied with the government's support in environmental and scientific areas.

"The government's crisis package will strengthen research and education at UMB, but I note that regretably the university's old buildings will not benefit from funding this time", said Rector Knut Hove.

Speed up planning UMB is also satisfied with an extra 15 million kroner for the process of relocalisation of the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science, National Veterinary Institute and UMB at Ås. This allocation will enable the Norwegian Parliament's resolution to be speeded up.

First in line The grants from the government's crisis package to buildings in the university and academic college sector will enable the building project to be implemented far quicker than expected and will put UMB first in line for the next allocation to the sector. It will then be possible to start the badly-needed restoration of the old, preservation-worthy buildings in the university's central courtyard during the institution's 150th year.

"The maintenance lag has earlier been estimated at more than 750 million kroner," explains Nils Dugstad, Administration Director at UMB.
