Sections of the programme may be completed abroad. A new feature is a joint Nordic platform for aquaculture education described in detail below.

Northern European joint platform in Aquaculture; The NOVA – University network
NOVA is a common virtual University communication platform for all Veterinarian Medicine, Animal Husbandry, Agricultural and Forestry Faculties in the Nordic countries. Since last year is a special education platform formed for AQUACULTURE and FRESH WATER FISHERIES.

Through this network is all aquaculture and freshwater fisheries courses available to a student registered at any of the other participating universities and be credited to your program at your university in accordance with a pre agreed level (to avoid cross over). Economic travel and living cost support is available to any student accepted at one of the participating universities, independent of nationality.

Courses will also offered jointly by all the universities. The first of these courses, an introductory course for masters students in aquaculture, will start with a joint field course on Bornholm, Denmark in September 2006 and continue with lectures transferred via videolink and web based projects in an Introduction course in Aquaculture at MSc level.

In addition to the diploma issued by the university of registration will the student recive a specific NOVA diploma, stating the speciality of the student within the subject aquaculture, if the student has aquired at least 30 ect at one of the other participants of the NOVA Aquaculture network.

Learning goals
Students will specialise in fish nutrition, fish breeding and technique. They will then be able to apply their knowledge to solve practical problems, participate in development projects and keep themselves up-to-date in scientific literature and news. Students should be able to solve practical problems based on their acquired specialised knowledge and be able to place practical solutions into a broader social perspective regarding general values within society, such as utilisation of resources, environment and animal welfare.

Teaching and evaluation methods
Teaching methods are varied and include lectures, field trips, seminars, group work, independent studies and exercises. Different topics have different methods of evaluation, such as internal assessment, tests and oral and written final examinations.
The Department of Animal and Aquacultural Sciences (IHA) also tightly cooperate in education and research field with Akvaforsk, Center for Feed Technology, Centre of excellence - Aquaculture Protein Centre (APC) and Centre for Intergrative Genetics (Cigene).
