Professor Odd Vangen elected Vice President of EAAP

Professor Odd Vangen of UMB was yesterday elected Vice President of EAAP (European Federation of Animal Science). The election took place during this year’s EAAP conference in Stavanger, where more than 1000 animal scientists from all over Europe were gathered.

Odd Vangen is a Professor at Department of Animal and Aquacultural Sciences at UMB. He is also a member of the Norwegian Biotechnology Advisory Board, the leader of the Gene Resource committee at Norwegian Gene Resource Center, a member of the breeding board at NORSVIN, and previously a board member at Oslo University Hospital. He has for several years headed the Norwegian branch of EAAP.
There is a lot of interesting work going on the EAAP commission, and I am looking forward to adding my share to the work for continued cooperation and coordination between the European member countries, says Vangen.
Norway has a lot to contribute in these areas, and I hope that my role will strengthen these efforts, Vangen concludes.
EAAP is the European organization for scientists in the fields of animal production, animal nutrition, physiology, genetics, animal health and production systems. The conference also included separate species sessions (cattle, horses, small ruminants and pigs). Novelties at this year’s conference were separate sessions on fish nutrition and fish breeding, and on animal research and gastronomy.
