Sheep barns for the future – a new research programme

In order to get the best possible basis for this research programme, the input of Norwegian sheep breeders is essential

Costs connected to farm buildings are of major importance for the profits in sheep farming. It is therefore important to arrive at reasonably priced and functional farm buildings that attend to the health and welfare of the animals as well as providing a good work environment for the farmer. This will be the main focus of a research programme that is now in the planning stage. The programme will be carried out as a collaborative effort between the research environments in Oslo and at Ås, and Småfeprogrammet for fjellregionen (the Ministry of Agriculture and Food “small ruminant programme for the mountain region”).

In order to get the best possible basis for this research programme, we need input from the “industry” and users. By participating in a survey, you can help us get an overview of current farm buildings. We would also appreciate any hints on building solutions and other farm management solutions which you think should be part of “the sheep barn for the future”.

The survey is in Norwegian and invites Norwegian sheep farmers.
