The Department of Ecology and Natural Resource Management was founded on October 1st 2003. The department’s subject area includes fundamental biology and ecology, natural resource management and forest science.
The department is responsible for education, research and information within its subject area. The education at INA follows international standards and includes Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree and PhD. INA also offers continued and further education.

The Teaching committee is responsible for the organization, development and quality control of the department’s courses.

The Research committee has a strategic and coordinating role linked to the initiation and establishment of research activity at the department. In addition they work to secure high quality research in the department.

Research committee (FU) An example of a research project that draw together the diverse range of subjects covered by INA is the project
“Land-use and Ecosystem function in Norwegian forest landscapes”. In this 5-year project, which started in 2003, researchers from INA are collaborating with colleagues from the Department of Economics and Resource Management (IØR) at UMB, the University of Bergen, the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (NIKU), the Swedish Agricultural University and the University of Minnesota.
