UMB School of Economics and Business

Among the top 100 business schools

Lars Mørk

The UMB School of Economics and Business has demonstrated significant leadership in integrating social,
environmental and ethical issues into its MBA program, according to the Aspen Institute’s 2011-2012 edition of Beyond Grey Pinstripes. The school is ranked 79 on a list of the Top 100 business schools.

- We are happy to be among the Top 100 business schools in the Beyond Grey Pinstripes survey, says Ragnar  Øygard, leader of the The UMB School of Economics and Business.

Integrated part of a university
- The UMB School of Economics and Business is part of the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB). Hence, being an integrated part of a university with a 150 years distingushed history in the natural sciences and technology (as well as economics and business) we are no "stand-alone" school. While providing all relevant courses for bachelor as well as masters degrees in business economics and administration, the UMB Business School takes advantage of being part of a larger natural science and technology environment.

- Students are offered, and do follow, courses on environmental issues within the School as well as courses outside economics and business offered by other schools/departments at UMB, in particular courses within environmentals sciences, development studies, renewable energy, as well as biology and landscape management, says Ragnar Øygard.

Beyond Grey Pinstripes survey
This year, 149 business schools from 22 countries participated in a year-long effort to map the landscape of
teaching and research on issues pertaining to business and society.

The complete ranking of the Top 100 MBA Programs is available at www.beyondgreypinstripes.org. This
website also provides information on thousands of courses, extracurricular activities and faculty research at all schools that participated in the Beyond Grey Pinstripes survey.

While many MBA rankings exist, only one looks beyond reputation and test scores to measure something much more important: how well schools are preparing their students for the environmental, social and ethical complexities of modern-day business.
