In loving memory of their friend

Lise Thoen

Last tuesday evening Kanchan Karki’s family and friends held a personal memorial ceremony in remembrance of their good friend. Kanchan Karki was hit by lightning on July 3. and died later from the injuries that he suffered.

Kanchan Karki’s brother and close friends held the memorial ceremony by the oak tree where Kanchan was hit by lightning. The bark of the oak tree had severe damages after the massive impact from the lightning that hit down through the tree and into the ground below. The solid tree trunk had been decorated by pictures of Kanchan Karki and during the ceremony people put down flowers and lit candles by the foot of the tree.

Just graduated
Several of Kanchan Karkis friends held personal speeches in remembrance of their good friend. Kanchan Karki was remembered as a social and positively minded person that stood by and helped his friends and family at all times. Kaylan Karki, Kanchan Karki’s brother, also spoke to the people that where gathered. He thanked Kanchan’s close friends, who was there for his brother during his stay at the hospital and later had been of great support to himself in this difficult time. Furthermore, he thanked Kanchan’s friends at the University, UMB and Norwegian Authorities, that had enabled his brother to study in Norway. Kanchan Karki finished his Bachelor degree in Economics and Resource Management this spring semester, and was planning to continue with studies for a masters degree in Economics this autumn. In the memorial ceremony, Ragnar Øygard, departmental head at the Department of Economics and Resource Management, handed over Kanchan Karki’s bachelors Diploma to Kanchan’s brother.
