The School of Economics and Business offers a PhD programme in Economics with specializations in fields where the department has active research groups. The programme is intended to provide strong theoretical and methodological skills in economics while maintaining an applied focus.
The scope of topics is limited by the supervision capacity and the courses offered. These fields include management, development economics, resource economics, resource and agricultural economics, environment and energy economics, and market and consumer analysis. In addition, the department is also involved in research in management, philosophy and ethics. The School of Economics and Business is a partner with two other national PhD research schools, and is involved with international networks offering PhD courses.
The PhD programme is stipulated to three years full time studies and research and builds on a relevant master degree in Economics or a similar discipline. The coursework component of the PhD study in Economics is 60 ECTS. Information, rules and regulations for PhD studies at UMB can be found at
