Plant and Environmental Sciences
Welcome to the Plant Cell Laboratory (PCL)
Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, UMB.
The PLC is situated in the Nothern part of the main campus in the Centre for plant research in controlled climate (SKP) buildings at Syverudveien 6. In addition to the PCL, the SKP main building includes growth chambers and greenhouses, administration, technical staff and a canteen (Building no. 61 in the UMB campus map). The main lab at PCL has about 20 bench places for individual work in addition to several common work areas and rooms.

The main type of work going on in the PCL is:
in vitro plant growth
different types molecular anc cell biology techniques physiological work.
More details about Lab rooms & Available equipment are found in the link on the right side. Especially worth mentioning is:
ABI DNA sequencing machine for fragment analysis
full equipment for and competence on high throughput RNA in situ hybridisation,
particle gun equipment
six 2 L bioreactors.
Persons working in the laboratory come mainly from the Department of plant- and environmental science (IPM) at UMB, but there are also persons from The Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute and Bioforsk
(The Norwegian Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Research) as well as independent scientist that cooperate with scientist working at PCL. In principal, everyone that work with plants can use the laboratory facility after payment of a bench fee (NOK 25 000/year), which include free access to all instruments at the PCL and basic laboratory equipment as clean water (certified for RNA work), glass wear and some plastic equipment.
