Dr. Gerald (Jerry) Shurson, Department of Animal Science, University of Minnesota St. Paul, MN will give a lecture on Thursday May 20 at 12:15 in the meeting room on the 2nd floor, Dept. of Animal and Aquacultural Science, UMB.

The title of the seminar is "Understanding Nutritional and Physical Properties of Corn DDGS"

APC is hosting Professor Jerry Shurson whom is a visiting professor from University of Minnesota, St Paul, USA. His main goal is to strengthen research collaboration between Aquaculture Protein Centre/UMB and University of Minnesota.

Jerry will be engaged in research projects concerning the use of bio-fuel co-products, such as distiller’s dried grains with soluble (DDGS), in diets for fish. Jerry will also be giving lectures in the feed technology course (HFE 307) during his three-week stay at APC.

Jerry is professor in swine nutrition at the University of Minnesota and currently has responsibilities for on-campus teaching, research and extension programs related to swine nutrition and management. During the past 12 years, Jerry’ research program has primarily focused on evaluating the nutritional value of DDGS in swine diets. He works very closely with the U.S. Grains Council to provide educational programs and assess export market opportunities for DDGS. Jerry has served in several professional leadership roles including Director on the Midwest Section of the American Society of Animal Science Board from 1995-1999, Director of the University of Minnesota Swine Center from 1998-2001, and President of the Midwest Section of the American Society of Animal Science Board from 2002-2005
