The aim of this Research School is to educate specialists in microbiology, emphasising bacteria and their role in health and food production.
The members of the Research School shall obtain competence within the field of modern molecular biology techniques. There will also be a focus on host-bacteria interactions.
Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are important in this research school, spanning from the positive LAB used in food production, with a probiotic effect, to the ones characterised as pathogens (e. g.
Streptococcus pneumonia). There will also be a focus on the natural occurring micro flora associated with humans.
The Research School in Molecular Microbiology cooperates with European research groups in molecular microbiology. The members of the research school will take part in:
• mandatory scientific meetings, with invited international speakers combined with credit-giving talks given by the PhD-students
• visits at relevant European universities and research groups
There will be a year to year variation considering the courses, meetings and visits offered. We expect a variation depending on the research field of the school members, and depending on relevant research fields in Europe.
Activities in the Research School in Molecular Microbiology: Seminars
The Research School organises a seminar series for
1) Educating PhDs and research scientists
2) Public relations
3) Social relations between school members
We coordinate the seminars with other seminar series at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (e. g. the seminars organised by the Norwegian Biochemistry Society (NBS)), in order to avoid overlapping activities and reduce the costs.
If possible, the Research School will offer education within additional aspects, such as academic writing, academic English and presentation techniques.
