Joanna Boddens-Hosang

The Norwegian government has established a strategic forum for climate research called ‘Klima21’ which will contribute its expertise to the development of an effective policy related to climate change.

The board of Klima21 will be headed by the director of Statkraft, the Norwegian company which is a leading player in Europe on renewable energy. Members of the board represent research, environment organisations, and the public- and corporate sector. Klima21 will focus mainly on the development and changes in climate, consequences of and adaptations to climate change, climate policy, and measures to cut emissions. Globalisation, corporate development and requirements for research are important topics linked to these themes.

The board will start its work by drafting a strategy for research and development including priorities for increased research on climate. The board’s first term runs until the end of 2009.

Prof. Arild Vatn fills the Thor Heyerdahl professorship based at Noragric, which builds an academic platform in environment and development through interdisciplinary and problem-oriented approaches and scientific collaboration between different departments at UMB and national and international institutions.
