Climate change and conflict
Josie Teurlings
Research on how conflict is linked to climate change at Noragric addresses vulnerability in conflict and post-conflict contexts, land rights and pastoralism.
Research has focused on the complex causal linkages between conflict and climate change; that climate change does not automatically lead to conflict as is often assumed. Significant research also focuses on how conflict and insecurity create vulnerability to climate change, and that conflict is sometimes used as a tool at a local level to reinforce power relations in negotiating outcomes of local climate adaptation strategies.
