EDS students' outing on 27 August 2010. Urban-environmental transformations and the river: Walk along Akerselva, Oslo
Webmaster
Organisers and participants:
EDS201 students (it’s recommended but voluntary), Ingunn Bohmann, Study Coordinator(90 01 64 67), Stig Rygland, historian and city guide (95 96 13 55), and Poul Wisborg, Course Leader (99 37 63 09). We will meet Anne Mette Hegdahl, host and guide, at Hønse-Lovisas Hus on Sagene (93 00 88 55).
This trip will take you along Oslo’s most important river, which runs 8,2 kilometres from the Maridalsvannet Lake to the Oslo Fjord. It is not a large river, but it has been very important for Oslo’s development: for agriculture, as a water source, for timber transport and processing, for industrialisation in the 19th century, recreation, residential areas and post-industrial transformations in the late 20th century – and so on.
Here are many things to learn about history and contemporary social and environmental change. Also, it’s a nice walk that never goes uphill!
