Important career steps for 2 Noragric PhD students: Dismas Mwaseba (Tanzania) and Bahadar Nawab (Pakistan)

Former PhD student Dismas Mwaseba (Tanzania) who defended in December 2005 has become Head of the Department of Agricultural Education and Extension in the Faculty of Agriculture at Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania. Dismas' thesis focused on the “Impact of Agricultural Research: A Study of On-Farm Development Effects of Agricultural Research in the Southern Highlands and Eastern Zones of Tanzania”. The Department of Agricultural Education and Extension offers programmes in agricultural education and extension at both undergraduate and postgraduate (M.Sc. and PhD) levels. Since its launch in 1998, the department has trained over 300 undergraduate students. Besides administrative responsibilities, Dismas is also involved in teaching and research.
Bahadar Nawab (Pakistan), who successfully defended his thesis “Ecological, Socio-cultural and Institutional Challenges in the Provision of Safe Water and Improved Sanitation in NWFP, Pakistan" in November 2006, has been appointed Head of Department for Development Studies at COMSATS, Pakistan. The Institute of Information Technology (COMSATS) has 6 campuses with the Department for Development Studies located at the Abottabad campus. Among others, it offers a two-year Master's programme in Development Studies.
The Department of International Environment and Develoment Studies, Noragric, has had institutional collaboration with Sokoine University since 1974 and collaborates with COMSATS in a parallel Master's programme in Sustainable Water and Sanitation, Health and Development together with Kathmandu University in Nepal as the third partner.
