Policy and governance
Josie Teurlings
Interdisciplinary research on this theme concerns climate policy and institutions for reducing green-house gas emissions, but also to some extent adaptation to climate change at different governance levels. Several projects are directed toward these issues.
There is both a focus on basic research on environmental governance with strong links to climate change, and more specific research on climate change policies. A core – and rather new – area of research concerns REDD (reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation). Our research here focuses on issues such as national REDD architectures, efficiency and effectiveness of policies; human motivation and incentive structures, issues of unequal power relations and distributional issues; and over rights of access and resource control. Legitimacy and justice forms a common thread in most of this research.
