Student experience: feedback from Noragric students

Webmaster

As a student at Noragric, you will have the exciting opportunity of going on exchange. Both our Bachelor Programme and Master Programmes offer student exchange to different parts of the world. Here are some experiences from former students.

More is coming... but here are the some of the feedbacks from our students.  "You will be met by a professional, committed and open hearted study environment and meet friends for life!", says one of the contributors, Marte Moe.

-------------------------------------------------
• A movie about Batwa people  (Uganda) by Robert Hodosi, Noragric Master student in Development Studies (2010).
-- Link to Protected Areas and Poverty in Africa (PAPIA) project
-------------------------------------------------

• A letter from a Peace Corps-Exchange for Sustainable Development fellow in Nepal (2009).
Sten Trygve Brand who is a former Master student in Development Studies at Noragric shares his experience as Peace Corpse fellow at Kathmandu University, Nepal.

I have background as a video journalist, and now I’m teaching media students for the second consecutive semester here at KU.  Since my educational background is television and media (here’s my CV) I first of all have classes in video, audio, and storytelling (mass communication), and I also do language training. It is very inspiring seeing these young people using their creativity, as well as getting positive feedback. I’m very satisfied with my role as a teacher and enjoy it a lot.
-------------------------------------------------

An interview with Melanie Brooks who has managed to combine full time work in a French company working specifically with Socially Responsible Investment (SRI), and completing her Master's thesis (2008).
-------------------------------------------------

• Eldri Berger about the Master's course in beautiful Uganda in the fall of 2007.

Waking up in the middle of the night with a hippopotamus grazing outside your hut is not an everyday experience! At least not for a Norwegian girl. A group of Noragric students attended the course “Rural Development and Project Management” at Makerere University, Kampala in the fall of 2007. These three months of study were undertaken in quite unusual circumstances, both in terms of our living conditions and the course schedule; varying from lectures in the slum, at an NGO’s office, in the classroom at Makerere or in the living room in a farmer’s home. The arrangement of the course is perfect for a student curious to get educational inputs as well as to experience Uganda through the eyes of a tourist.

Field experiences from Ecuador - winter 2007/2008  by the former Master student Marte Moe.

I had a great experience conducting my field work in Ecuador. It is a beautiful country and the people are incredible! I came to recognize the problems within the national cocoa sector to be far more extended than I first assumed, and being obliged to make continuous considerations and adjustments made me feel like a true researcher! The process of preparation, field work and writing the thesis was a great closure of my studies at Ås. I truly recommend Master in Development Studies. You will be met by a professional, committed and open hearted study environment and meet friends for life!

From theory to practice - Sten T. Brand, a former Master student in Development studies at NORAGRIC, is currently working for Utviklingsfondet as a ESD participant in Nepal (2007).

Studying at Noragric was a mind-opening experience for me. As an interdisciplinary program you will meet people from various backgrounds and walks of life. The highlight of the program was the exchange program with a University in Nepal. I was a part of a small group that chose to go to Nepal in fall semester of 2007.

• Letter from the former student in Development Studies, Marte B. Lia Torskenæs. She works as Communications Officer in UNDP.

After I finished my master degree in Development Studies at Noragric in 2006 I got a job as a communication and liaison officer with the UN Development Programme UNDP. I was recruited as a Junior Professional Officer (JPO) and I’m now based in our Nordic Office in Oslo where I work with outreach to the Norwegian media, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relevant politicians and development institutions. Part of my job is to position UNDP and the UN in Norway and to generate and participate in the public development debate.
-------------------------------------------------

• Letter from the former DS master student Ola Hanserud, titled: "From Master in Development Studies to Water and Sanitation engineer in Pakistan!".

From Master in Development Studies to Water and Sanitation engineer in Pakistan! Ola Hanserud graduated from the Master programme in Development Studies in the spring of 2007. Now he is working for the Norwegian Church Aid in Pakistan. Ola sent us a letter from Pakistan about his experience being a student at Noragric, and how his road has been developed from studies to work!
-------------------------------------------------

• Students' contribution to AKRSP (Aga Khan Rural Support Programme) network in Pakistan has been important.

-- Noragric PhD and Master's theses completed as a part of the AKRSP programme
-- Audiovisual presentations of the programme activities
