Noragric offers four academic programmes: a Bachelor programme in Development Studies; a Master programme in Development Studies; a Master programme in International Environmental Studies; and a PhD programme in Development Studies.
• BACHELOR PROGRAMME IN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES The Bachelor programme in Development Studies is an interdisciplinary programme where different theoretical approaches give insight into different and often overlapping disciplines, both within social and natural science. The programme provides basic knowledge within several disciplines like social anthropology, ecology, resource management and economy, and how to use this knowledge to find solutions to specific interdisciplinary problems.
• MASTER PROGRAMME IN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES The Master programme in Development Studies looks at global and local problems related to poverty, environment and social conflicts. The programme offers a broad understanding of social science perspectives in societies, development, and change, as well as more specialised approaches to poverty reduction, conflict avoidance, and sustainable resource management.
• MASTER PROGRAMME IN INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES The Master programme in International Environmental Studies explores causes and effects of global environmental problems related foremost to climate change, loss of biodiversity, desertification, water and land degradation. The programme gives an in-depth understanding of how governance structures and power relations influence current trends and explores how problems and solutions are linked to governance, power relations and international cooperation.
• PhD PROGRAMME IN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES Definition of Development Studies in the Noragric context: The field Development Studies is concerned with the processes, constraints and opportunities for social, political, cultural, economic, ecological, institutional and technical change, progress and development in different societies and settings. Development aims at improving the life (livelihood security, environmental well-being, quality of life etc.) of people and it is most appropriately defined with their active participation.
