Where: Integrated Reserve and Ecovillage Sasardi (RIES), municipality of Acandi in the Chocó county close to the Triganá Bay, Caribbean coast. The Reserve is located in a zone with a high biodiversity in the North West of Colombia, bordering with Panamá.
When: From 17th. July to 8th August, 2006
Participants: Approximately 10 volunteers.
Cost: Volunteers are asked to contribute with 10 EUR per day/per person to cover cost of lodging and meals.
Organizing partner: The Darién Foundation, which is a non-profit NGO which seeks and promote sustainable alternatives of production in order to decrease human pressure on the local ecosystems, thus support community and environmental projects that ultimately will improve the living condition of the local population. Preservation of the biodiversity.
Activities: The volunteers will help in the amelioration of infrastructure at the Reserve and Ecovillage Sasardi partly building with natural and local material and with ecological gardening/agriculture, establishment of intercropping systems under ecological principles. Various holistic and integrated activities will take place.
The main objective is to solve daily needs of a small community in a more sustainable way, collaborate to the establishment of the reserve as center for exchange of experiences and knowledge, a demonstration center as example for the local communities which shows that households can obtain sufficient livelihood and food security by setting up small scale-production. Use and management of local resources in a sustainable manners in harmony with nature that does not contribute to further environmental degradation and extinction of endangered species.
In order to contribute to this process the Foundation will set up a couple of experiences as examples, where the volunteers will participate in;
1) Rehabilitation and maintenance of the infraestructure of the training center and visitors hostel. (carpentry and building work), at the nature reserve and ecovillage Sasardi and at the ecocenter under construction at Trigana Bay.
2) Planting and establishment of intercropping systems under ecological principles. (ecological gardening work) within the natural reserve and ecovillage Sasardi and with the local innhabitants of Sardi and San Francisco.
During the camp the participants will get to know about the environmental, socio-economic and ethnic reality of the region, and meeting the local population (black afrocaribbean communities, indigenous and mestizo settlements). There will be some gatherings and activities together with the local inhabitants in order to get a closer relation with the locals..
How to get there: The reserve is located one hour walk along a creek within the forest, from the Triganá Bay at the Urabá Gulf. There are daily departures from Turbo by motorboat (11:00 AM) to the Triganá Bay (1 ½ hour trip approximately), crossing the Urabá Gulf. Turbo can be reached by plane or bus from Medellín and Bogotá. It is also possible to arrive through Panama City, from there by plane to Obaldia (close to the colombian border), and motor boat to Capurganá and from there in another motorboat to Triganá Bay.
Accommodation: The hosting in the reserve offers basic accommodation with camping-mattresses, bed-linen, hammocks and mosquito-nets. Food consists mainly of local products, mostly vegetarian.
What to bring: Light clothing, long-sleeved shirt and trouser, boots (hiking- or rubber-boots), rainwear, hat, torch, insect repellents, sun-cream. Recommended: Binoculars, camera, pocket-knife. Needed health precaution: Yellow fever and Tetanus vaccination, and Malaria tablets.

Donde: RIES, municipalidad de Acandi en el departamento del Choco, cercano a la Bahia de Trigana, en la costa Caribe. La reserva esta ubicada en una zona de alta biodiversidad en el noroeste de Colombia, en la frontera con Panama.
Cuando: Desde el 17 de Julio al 08 de Agosto de 2006
Participantees: Aproximadamente 10 voluntarios.
Costo: Se solicita a los Voluntarios contribuir con 10 Euros por dia/persona para cubrir los gastos de alojamiento y alimentación.
Organización social: La Fundación Darién, es una ONG sin animo de lucro, que busca y promueve alternativas sostenibles de producción con el fin de disminuir la presión sobre los ecosistemas locales, de modo de apoyar la comunidad y proyectos ambientales que finalmente mejoren las condiciones de vida de la población local.
Actividades: Los voluntarios ayudaran en el mejoramiento de la infraestructura de la reserva y Ecoaldea Sasardi, en parte construyendo con materiales naturales y locales, jardineria/agricultura ecologica y arreglo de sendero ecoturisticos y de interpretación natural/educativo. Varias actividades holisticas e integrales se llevaran a cabo.
El objetivo principal es resolver las necesidades cotidianas de una pequena comunidad de manera mas sostenible, colaborar en el establecimiento de la reserva como centro de intercambio de experiencias y conocimiento, un centro de demostración como ejemplo para las comunidades locales que muestre que un grupo/familia/casa puede obtener suficiente medio de subsistencia y seguridad alimentaria por medio del establecimiento de sistemas de producción a pequeña escala. Uso y manejo de los recursos locales de manera sostenible en armonia con la naturaleza, que no contribuya a mas degradación ambiental y extinción de especies en peligro.
Con el propósito de contribuir a este proceso, la Fundación montará un par de experiencias como ejemplos, donde los voluntarios participarán en:
1) Rehabilitación del centro de aprendizaje y del albergue para visitantes (trabajo de construcción y carpinteria) en la reserva integral y ecoaldea Sasardí, y el ecocentro bajo construcción en la Bahía de Triganá.
2) Cultivo y establecimiento de sistemas mixtos bajo principios ecologicos (trabajo de jardineria/agricultura ecológica), en la reserva integral y ecoaldea Sasardí y con los habitantes locales de Sardi y San Francisco.
Durante el campamento los participantes conocerán acerca de la situación ambiental, socio-económica y realidad étnica de la región, además de estar en contacto con la población local (comunidades negras afrocaribenas, asentamientos indigenas y mestizos). Habrá algunos encuentros y actividades conjuntas con los habitantes locales.
Como llegar: La reserva esta ubicada a una hora caminando a lo largo de la quebrada por el bosque, desde la Bahia Trigana en el Golfo de Urabá. Hay salidas diarias desde Turbo en lanchas con motor fuera de borda (11:00 AM) a la Bahía Triganá (1 ½ hora de viaje aproximadamente), cruzando el Golfo de Urabá. Turbo es accesible por avión o bus desde Medellín y Bogotá. También es posible llegar a través de la ciudad de Panamá, desde donde se viaja en avión a Obaldia (cerca de la frontera colombiana), y lancha a Capurganá, y desde alli en otra lancha hasta Bahía Triganá.
Alojamiento: La estadía en la reserva ofrece condiciones básicas de alojamiento con colchonetas, tendidos de cama, hamacas y toldillos contra mosquitos. La comida consiste en productos locales, la mayor parte vegetariana.
Que traer: Ropa delgada, camisa de manga larga y pantalones largos, botas (todo terreno o de caucho), impermeable, gorra, linterna, repelente de insectos, crema protectora contra el sol. Se recomienda: binoculares, camara fotografica, navaja de bolsillo. Requerimiento de precuación de salud: vacunas contra la Fiebre amarilla y tetano, tabletas anti malaria.
