The Master’s Thesis Evaluation
Studieavdelingen
The evaluation of the master's thesis work was in 2007 incorporated in the Quality Assurance System at UMB. The reason for introducing this periodic evaluation was the wishes from the academic communities and the students to have a system for a final evaluation similar to the evaluation of the other courses at the university.
The survey is anonymous and bilingual (English and Norwegian). The Department of Academic Affairs administrates the evaluation and the Departments’ handle and follow up the results. The evaluation of the master's thesis work was conducted for the first time in September 2007. The evaluation was conducted twice a year among students who had their marking of the master's thesis in that period.
In addition to the main report, which contains an overall overview of the results, students' comments excluded, the institutes receive the raw data report with comments from their students.
At the annual management dialogue the departments must respond to how they have followed up the results of the evaluation. The results of the survey are also reported in the annually Annual Report on the Quality of Education.
The master's thesis evaluation was last conducted in 2008. The evaluation is currently (2010) under revising.
