Colour explanation: Red/yellow = teaching periods. The red period indicates when the teaching starts.
Type of course
Autumn paralell: 2 hours twice a week.
Exercises: 1-2 hours per week
January block: 6 Laboratory assignments. 4-7 hours each
Compulsory educational activities
All laboratory assignments must be carried out. Laboratory reports from all assignments will be corrected, evaluated and potentially approved.
There are currently 6 laboratory assignments and all of them must be approved before you may sit for the exam. The answers to the assignments are to be filled in, and it advised that the assignments are completed on the same day that they are begun. The reports counts 25 % and the exam 75 %. You must pass both to pass the course.
NB. The curriculum consists of three parts. Two two hours written test will be arranged after part 1 and one after part 2 respectively. Due to laboratory safety reasons both tests should be passed with grade C or higher. If not, the student will not be allowed to enter part 3, the laboratory part, and will not be able to enter for the final exam.
Prerequisites
FYS101, FYS102 and FYS103.

Teaching methods
Textbook teaching through lectures in autumn parallell.
Laboratory exercises during the two first weeks of the January-block with exercises on the most important machines and principles that are part of the course.
Calculation exercises will be given throughout the course.
Teaching support
Faglærers kontor er åpent for konsultasjoner gjennom semesteret.
Hjelpelærer vil også kunne bistå.
Examiner
The examiner will participate in the development of the laboratory exercises.
Entrance requirements
Special requirements in Science
Objective of course
Engelsk:Students will understand that all transformation of energy in machines follows the law of induction: Voltage is induced when an electrical conductor experiences a varying magnetic field. Students will see that a dynamo, a motor, a transformer, a loudspeaker, a microphone, a cassette player and the read/write head in a computer disk are in theory similar machines. Students will become familiar with some different machine types such as the asynchronous machine, the synchronous machine, the direct current machine and transformers of various kinds. In the same way, they are to understand the difference between direct current, alternating current and three-phase systems and be able to conduct elementary calculations on machines in simple networks. Students will also understand the ideas of efficiency, active and reactive effects and some important roles that they play in small and large energy systems.
Course contents
Engelsk:The course starts out by repeating the electrical principles from the study of electromagnetism, relevant for this course. We will then cover the principles, construction, output, properties and fields of application of various electrical machines.
