Type of course Lectures, discussion groups, workshops and seminars: about 125 hours.
Supervision: 3-4 hours.
Field work and surveying: ca 25 hours.
Compulsory educational activities Compulsory assignments. Students need to attend 80% of the review sessions, seminars, lectures and excursions in the course.
Reduction of credits for overlapping courses With Laa 216, 5 ECTS
Prerequisites An approved Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from another educational institution or an approved two-year basic block in Landscape Architecture at UMB, or the equivalent.
Recommended prerequisites LAD100, LAA116, LAA224.

Teaching methods The course is based on lectures, seminars/group discussions, excursions, individual project work and group work.
Teaching support The students receive weekly supervision, both in groups and individually.
Examiner Course evaluation involves the examiner taking part in in-class, joint review sessions. Semester assignments are approved by the responsible teacher. The examiner is actively involved in the course structure and its content.

Objective of course  

The students will solve constructive and design challenges directly connected to the design of gardens, parks or urban spaces, from concept development to detailed design.
Students will develop creative construction solutions, gain an understanding in material use and obtain an overview of professional solutions that serve as models within this field. Students will practice the visualising of architectural projects from concept to detailed building guidelines/instructions. Through individual work the student will further develop his/her ability of independent problem solving, technical thinking and reflection.

   
Course contents  
The course is built up around the project assignments. Work method varies from individual to group work, seminars and discussions. A 2-4 day study trip is arranged during the teaching period 4 or 5 (depending upon resources). The study trip is not obligatory.
   
Syllabus  
There are no books prescribed for the course. Astrid Zimmerman: Constructing Landscape, materials, techniques, structural components. Birkhäuser 2008. An overview of contemporary, periodical articles and other literature will be handed out during the course.
