Type of course The course is based on a combination of lectures, excursions and group work, individual or group supervision. and consists of a theoretical part, a studio part and a part with introduction into 3D modelling techniques. After being introduced to a number of 3D digital tools and visualization techniques for design and planning, students are required to investigate a specific 3D digital tools which could be used afterwards in a design project case. Students would present first the selected 3D digital tool or approach and the level of expectation. After been able to identify a 3D digital approach, student would be given the possibility to test the selected approach through a case study. Students would get access to the VR-Lab to test theories and aspects connected to the usage of the 3D digital tool in design and planning issues. the final outcome expected from a student or group is a presentation of the project case showing potentials and possibilities of using the selected 3D digital tool. It's also expected to hand-in a writing description of the investigation process.
Compulsory educational activities Attending the supervision sessions + presenting final project.

Objective of course

The course will function as an arena to investigate and work with various topics connected to the use of 3D modelling and visualizations in design and planning. After introducing the main topic through planned lectures, students will work individually or in groups with supervision on a selected case study.

Course contents
This course is for students who have mastered intermediate digital modelling skills and wish to explore the new potentials and complications associated with 3D modelling in interaction with landscape, urban systems and dynamics, architecture and construction. Technologies such as 3D visualizations, animation, and immersive Virtual Reality will be explored. The emphasis is put on investigation of the added values of using 3D in design. The course will offer possibilities to work with latest developments in 3D technology and Virtual Reality for collaboration and communication of design concepts. The Virtual Reality Lab (VR-Lab) will offer an arena for testing and experimenting of new ways of knowledge-sharing, increasing collaboration, motivation and engaged learning.
