Advice to master students and supervisors

The Student Information Center (SiT) would like to provide students who are writing their master thesis with some advice along the road

This page contains information about relevant regulations, deadlines, potential thesis and advice on the writing assignment.

Deadlines:

Notification for choice of thesis:	Contact student advisor
Submission of thesis contract	Before work on thesis begins
Registration deadline for thesis	1st Sep for the Autumn semester and 1st Feb for the Spring semester
Submission of Special Curriculum agreement	1st Feb of the last year of the master program
Withdrawal deadline from thesis:	1st Nov for the Autumn semester and 1st April for the Spring semester
Application for extension deadline:	Latest, one month before submission deadline
Signing of agreement for a confidential thesis:	In good time before submission deadline
Deadline for submission of thesis	Spring semester – 15th May kl 15.00 and Autumn semester – 15th December kl 15.45

Important to remember BEFORE and ON the day of submission of the thesis:
      All theses are required to have UMB's template as the front cover: Template 

• Contact a printing shop to order a print date, well ahead of the submission deadline
• All theses must be submitted electronically in Brage. See: http://www.umb.no/brage-en . The receipt of submission in Brage must be printed and brought to SiT on the day of submission of the thesis.
• Minimum 3 bound copies of the thesis shall be delivered at SiT by the submission deadline. All copies are stamped by SiT.
• Together with the bound printed copies of the thesis, are the following forms required during submission at SiT: Registration form and the exam declaration form.  If the thesis is confidential, this form must also be filled and signed.

Prize for best Master's thesis.
The prize for best Master's thesis at UMB shall be handed out each year from and including 2007. The price is NOK 10 000.
