Contents of the programme:
You study at a university renowned for its good student environment and large degree of interaction between students and the academic staff.

The masters programme consists of specialisation in one or more economic sub-disciplines, e.g.
• Environmental and resource economics
• Climate economics
• Energy economics
• Development economics
• Public policy and resource management
• Enterprise development
• International trade theory
• Finance and enterprise management.

You can supplement the specialisation with courses within organisational sciences or business administration and management.

Moreover, you can select a more interdisciplinary profile, by choosing from all the courses offered at UMB in other social science (e.g: sociology, spatial plannin , law; political science) natural sciences and technology.

The numerous optional courses enables you to tailor your  education to suit your special interests.

What will I learn? 
You will acquire skills in economic analysis and deeper insights into how the economy works.

Some examples of topics analysed in the programme are:
• How to intergrate environmental effects in economic analysis of ecosystem management, air and water pollution, and climate change.
• How to combine economic growth and environmental protection - both at the firm level and at the national level.
• How to design and implement an international climate treaty.
• How to reduce poverty and manage natural resources in a better way in developing countries.
• How to organize energy markets to avoid monopolies and market manipulation.
• How to analyze consequences of international trade agreements.
• How to explain why food, energy and other commodity prices are so volatile.

What can you use this qualification for?
Economists are in high demand in government ministries and agencies, in private businesses, and in various organisations. More specific work areas for economists are analysis in relation to environmental policy, energy systems, development aid, enterprise development, trade policy, economic policy, and much more.

Requirements 
Bachelor degree in economics or similar, including mathematics and statistics, and at least 90 ECTS of economics (micro, macro, environmental economics etc.).

Applicants must demonstrate English language ability in accordance with the UMB regulations for programmes taught in English.
