150 years of service to the community

In 2009, 150 years of education, knowledge dissemination and research will be celebrated. All are cordially invited to the university's opening arrangement on 9 January, 2009 starting at 15.45.
Autumn 1859, six teachers welcomed the first 30 students to "The Higher College of Agriculture in Aas". This year, 450 teachers welcomed 3,100 students.
A brief outline of the most important dates and activities in the jubilee year are given below. Further activities will be announced later on this site.
9 January.Start 15.45. Opening of jubilee celebrations.
Blæsten - student band. Choral fanfare - specially commissioned from composer Edvin Østergaard. Display of fireworks by courtesy of Ås commune. Hot mulled wine will be served. Closing of arrangement: Illumination of Urbygningen (Clock Building).
Special guests: Minister of Research and Higher Education Tora Aasland, Minister of Agriculture and Food Lars Peder Brekk and Deputy Mayor of Ås commune Marianne Røed.
28 May
Spring conference. Theme: food and development.
14 AugustMatriculation. The Rector welcomes each student personally, UMB is the only university in Norway to do this. In 2009, Matriculation will be part of the jubilee celebrations.
SeptemberAn exciting month for Follo's inhabitants. The students will present a jubilee revy with a number of the best acts from nearly 100 years of revues.
The university will be open to those who are interested to see in what is happening in the laboratories and offices.
4 DecemberJubilee celebrations finish.
