Strategies and Opportunities

Strategies for obtaining funding for research teams:

  1. UMN and UMB team leaders/members apply separately for project support, but include partner researchers (e.g. UMB applicant with UMN partners) as significant collaborators
  2. As 1), but use funding of partner as “match” for primary grant
  3. UMN and UMB apply jointly for funding to either US or Norway sources
  4. Either UMN or UMB apply for supplements to existing grants for support of student researchers (e.g. NSF grants have specific program for such supplements)
  5. Encourage grad students/post doc members of teams to apply for Fulbright and similar funds
  6. UMN and UMB leaders/members meet with appropriate program officers of respective national funding agencies (e.g. US: NSF, DOE, USDA; Norway: RCN, SIU) to identify joint grant possibilities
